Because there were so many shapes made by colonial tinsmiths, dating sconces to
particular time periods is very difficult. Generally, circular sconces with bracket candle holders are the earliest. Oval sconces are from the late 1700’s to early 1800’s and the
rectangular shapes date from the early to mid 1800’s. All electrified sconces come ready to wire into your switched junction box and all are rated for a maximum 40 watts per
candelabra base socket. For atmosphere lighting we recommend our silicone bulbs available in 3, 6 or 15 watts or our primitive candles.
